Our Short Bali Getaway

It seems I spoke too soon. Right after the previous post, I started vomiting again. I guess it’s time I face the reality that this nausea is just not going to go away throughout the pregnancy.

Hubby and I took a short break over the weekend to celebrate his birthday and our anniversary. It was our first trip leaving the furkid with someone else in their home and it wasn’t easy for us. We were worried about how he might behave and react to a different environment without familiar faces and smells. Luckily the lady taking care of him is good with dogs and he was in good hands.

Didn’t make it easier though. Hubby and I missed him so much. It was nice of her to send us a picture of him every night so that we wouldn’t worry so much.

Hubby booked a private villa for us in Ubud, Bali. It is affordable and surprisingly beautiful. I was not expecting such a lovely place for the price we paid.

Every morning, they will serve you breakfast and you can eat by the pool or with the lovely sounds of birds and insects. Reminds me of my childhood.

They even have an outdoor shower! But if you are not comfortable with showering without a roof over your head, you can always bathe in that humongous bath tub. It can fit 3 of me, no kidding!
I was so pleased to have that private spacious villa all to ourselves for 3 days. We hired a very friendly driver called Ketut who drove us around Bali for a fixed fee. We had barbeque while watching the sunset, went to the famous Kuta beach where hubby got tanned, and visited some villages. There were so many dogs around, but I never saw any dog poop. Their public toilets, while old, were always clean. And the people are friendly, even those selling souvenirs aren’t pushy. Hubby even tried the famous Bali coffee despite knowing where it comes from. I wasn’t that adventurous.

We drove pass the spot where the Bali bombings took place and also the shopping mall where there was another attack. Life it seems has gone back to normal, many tourists and locals walking about enjoying themselves. Life has to go on. One can only imagine the chaos that took place back then.

It was a great short break, especially for hubby. I think he really needed it after taking care of me and dealing with work. He was glad to see me have my appetite back, but I paid for it when we returned home. (Immediately after we touched down, we rushed to pick our furkid up and we both agreed to never leave him for long again.) The very next day, I woke up with a bad case of sore throat, and a terrible headache and body ache that lasted for 2 days. I took panadol on the first day but when it didn’t go away the next morning, hubby took me to see the doctor. Low grade fever, Doc said. Gave me some more panadols and something for my throat and told me to rest a lot, which is good because I have been feeling real lethargic since we got back.

Short trips like these make me miss my hubby a lot. We woke up at whatever time we wanted and slept at whatever time we felt like. We had the space and time all to ourselves and I had him with me every waking, and sleeping, moment. It was as though I had everything I needed all in one place, if only our furkid was there beside us too.

Now that we are back and hubby has to go to work, I miss him more than I usually do.

Back to pregnancy updates, I have been vomiting out even the simplest meals – porridge. On the way back from the bank I had a craving for Burger King and decided to take away my mushroom swiss. Now that I did not vomit out. Like I said, the baby loves unhealthy meals.

My tummy seems to have stopped growing. I look like a teletubby, belly not big enough to show that I’m pregnant, only big enough to show that I may be a little overeating. With regards to work, I’m glad I have a job that lets me settle stuff from home.

Everyday I am reminded of how fortunate I am to be where I am right now and I never want to take a moment of this for granted. Oh baby Tarn, you are a lucky baby indeed. Please grow up to be good, happy and healthy.

Craving Satisfied

I was still feeling rather nauseated and vomited a little after my last post. But the past few days have been good. My appetite comes and goes. So on a good day like yesterday, hubby decided to treat me to a sukiyaki steamboat dinner. It was a long time coming too; I have been craving for it since I got pregnant and haven’t been able to eat it because of my bloated-ness, lack of appetite, vomiting… you get the idea.

Ever since my appetite came back, I have been craving for all the unhealthy food. Actually throughout the pregnancy, the only foods that do not make me feel like regurgitating it out are those unhealthy ones. Cereals, noodles, fish… all made me feel pukey. But Mos Burger, McDonald’s hash browns and pancakes, wedges… I never vomited them out. This is a very unhealthy baby. 🙂

My baby bump has become slightly more obvious. It is getting harder to conceal it.

Not that I want to. 🙂 But now that my appetite is back, I want to make sure I don’t overeat. And that I eat healthy. Funny that I’m saying that while sipping on a can of A&W. To be fair, it is my first in many many years. Like I said, this baby’s cravings are weird.

new addition to my Stitch collection

new addition to my Stitch collection

Hubby bought me 2 new Stitch collectables. I like the one on the left because it is Stitch in his natural appearance – alien suit, 6 limbs and mischievous expression. The other is also from a memorable scene where stitch was in the woods and is reading a book about a mother and her ducklings and he’s waiting for his family to come. Many Disney movies have great life lessons. But I think the one that Lilo and Stitch teaches touches me the most. I really hope Baby Tarn likes Lilo and Stitch too. Well he/she is going to, since all my stitch collectables are going to be decorating his/her room soon.
